Reflections

Reflections from internship

Challenges

The primary difficulty I had at IGLM was the linguistic barrier between me and my coworkers. Their first language was Italian, whereas mine was English. We overcome this cultural barrier by speaking slowly and simply, and by including additional people in conversations to maximize translation. We were all aware that it was critical to have a clear understanding when discussing issues as important as brand identity.

 Skills

One of the most important skills I've gained from my internship is creativity. Making TikToks for an e-commerce company was a challenge, and I haven't seen much online presence on TikTok for other e-commerce companies. So I had to think outside the box about what would entice people while also being appropriate for the brand's identity. This Internship has also advanced by social media and marketing skills.

Future

This internship was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and is valuable for future professional careers, whether in a professional, personal, or academic setting. I am more confident in my social media and marketing abilities, and I am eager to use this new knowledge in the future. After college, I will work in an increasingly global marketplace, and international exposure will broaden my prospects and make me an appealing candidate to employers. Overall, I am proud of myself for completing an international internship and overcoming the obstacles I encountered along the way.

January 30 Reflection

I ranked as a expressive thinker on the test. This personality type places an emphasis on being exuberant, spontaneous, and high-energy. Expressives are "big picture" thinkers who are effective at brainstorming. I have a lot of enthusiasm during my internship and enjoy coming up with new ideas and organizing the social media.

Due to my strong sense of empathy, compassion, and emotional motivation, I believe I am an excellent example of my communication style.

My supervisor seems to be a very analytical thinker who is constantly concerned with the steps and goals.

From every lead session

SMART Goals for internship

S: I want to increase the social media engagement on all platforms by posting static posts at least three times a week and one day to show face and talk on stories, as well as responding to every comment asked on all social media platforms.

M: My goal is to grow at least 2x the amount of followers on every social media platform.

A: In general, consistency  on social media does make for an increase in engagement.

R: When there is more social media engagement, sales has more opportunities to go up.

T: By May 5, the end of my internship.

Project Management plan

Approach: I will have all social media accounts on my phone so I am able to make posts often as well as engage with other users. I will post 3 times a week on accounts, and throughout the week on stories, as well as posting videos of me talking, to make the social media a more enjoyable and engaging experience.

Stakeholders: the stakeholders would be the followers of the company who are seeing new posts, liking it, sharing them, etc.

Anticipated challenge: The challenge will be to create content that is engaging rather than dull.

Desired Results: a social media influx on all platforms.

 SMART Goals for internship

S: I want to collaborate with another company through social media by reaching out to brands often

M: I will measure this goal by the amount of relationships I made through connecting with other companies

A: I have reached out to brands before for other jobs, so I know that many brands to enjoy collaborating, it is just a matter of what company would be a good fit.
R: this goal is with working hard to accomplish because a collaboration has the potential to expand its engagement from users who would have otherwise never shopped with this company.

T: By May 5, the end of my internship.

Project Management plan

Approach: I plan on researching brands that would fit well with the company or a company that uses products from this brand, and reach out to at least two companies a week to insure that one brand would want to do a collaboration by the end of the internship, and if not a collaboration, at least build a connection.

Stakeholders: the stakeholders in this would be me, reaching out, and the potential companies we are collaborating with.

Anticipated challenges: The challenge will be to build the right relationships that would benefit both sides from a collaboration

Desired results: a collaboration done through social media

February 6 Reflection

What are you listening to and hearing in your internship? are you managing to be open to learning new things?

  • I am listening to people by using google translate, mixed with the small bit of Spanish I know to try to pick out words and phrases to make out what they are saying to me.

  • I am hearing a lot of my co-workers talk to each other in their native language as well as a lot of English. I am trying my best to learn as much as I can despite the language barrier.

  •  I am learning to manage new things through nonverbal communication and being in contact with my colleagues through text messages and email as much as I can.

Active listening has 7 key skills. Some of these skills come naturally to me while others require me to be more cognizant of my own behavior.

  • Naturally: Being attentive, asking open-ended questions, paraphrasing, being attuned to and reflecting feelings.

  • Not naturally: Asking probing questions, requesting clarification, and summarizing

February 20 Reflection: Professionalism & Integrity

At work, I report to Danielle, the graphic designer! I look up to him for his integrity in the work environment. Danielle always arrives early to work and makes coffee for everyone; he quickly translates social media messages for me; and he is highly focused at work (our desks our next to each other, so I see him work hard all day). He drives me to work every morning and is always kind to me and others.

March 29 reflection: Challenges & Change

One difficulty I've had is not being able to attend the office at the same time as the other intern. We work particularly closely together on TikToks. Thus, not being able to work on TikTok for extended periods of time has been a challenge in many ways, both professionally and creatively. This challenge has inspired us to make the most of the two hours we spend together each week by scheduling content days and spending the majority of our time separately editing.

April 3 Reflection: Cultural Awareness

  • Being open-minded about our differences in cultures (coffee before work, breaks to chat on special occasions

  • try to be adaptive, I got to learn about how to cooperate with life reflected in social media in Italy right away when I asked if we could partner with others companies and they have never heard of that

  • ask questions! It is important to educate yourself continuously and it is not rude to be curious or ask a question (for example on saint day)

April 12 reflection

leadership skills that I have:

-communication

-planning and delivery

When, where, how, and why have I put them to use in my internship?

- Communication: I have been able to communicate my ideas for social media despite a language barrier with my excellent  communication skills

- Planning and delivering: I am very goof at planning and executing my plan. This has helped with planning social media.

April 17 Reflection: STAR MEDTHOD

GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE OF SOMETHING YOU ACCOMISHED THAT YOU ARE PROUD OF...

S: While I was living in Arizona my junior year of college, I was working for Red Bull as a student marketeer and along the way, got trained in sales. I was in tuson Arizona when I noticed one of the most popular college bars on Univeriy Drive did not sell redbull or redbull infused drinks (vodka redbull, etc).

T: My job in sales is to seek out popular restaurants or bars for the target market of college students to  enjoy a Red Bull at.

A: I decided to approach the manage rasnd ask her why she didnt sell Red Bull even though it is very popular for college students in the area and she could potentially be making a lot of money by choosing to sell the drink.

R: She expressed interest in having Red Bull. We immediately got the sales team involved and quickly were able to print custom table tents and organize a Red Bull Bingo event at the bar to celebrate them having it available now.
